My inspiration for the mural came from a visit to the museum. I wanted to tell a story about Liverpool, its culture and the museum as well as welcome people to the city by using a combination of illustration, typography, patterns and iconography.
Throughout the mural you can see a mixture of iconic landmarks combined with patterns, colours, shapes and iconography which have all been inspired by the museums collection and surrounding areas as well as Liverpool’s vibrant culture and diverse communities.
The phrase “YOU ARE HERE” was the first thing that came to my
mind at the start of the design process. I chose it due to the museums proximity to the cruise terminal and to act as a warm welcome for visitors coming to learn about Liverpool’s history and culture.
For me one of the best things about working in Liverpool is the level of local support and connections. I’ve been able to meet so many different people through my art and it makes me feel like I’m really part of the city. Meeting people and discussing what’s going on around Liverpool gives me a real buzz of excitement.
